Ura Vajgurore farmers appeal for the state’s help, dump their produce: Let the sheep eat it

Farmers in the village of Samatica, from the Ura Vajgurore municipality, were filmed throwing their produce into the canal.

Farmers of the villages Samatica, Drenovica and Kutalli are throwing away their greenhouses’ produce like cucumbers, as a result of declining sales at collection centers.
Seedlings planted in their greenhouses are being removed and thrown away, even though they are productive.

Farmers say they require the states assistance because they have taken loans. They demand that loan installments be suspended for a year and that the seedlings they plant be subsidized.
The area is dumping all their greenhouse produce because the collection point does not accept them. Meanwhile, the few traders who come to buy the produce pay only 10 or 5 lek per kg.

“We don’t even get the cost of production at that price, so we have to throw them in the canal or on the ground for the sheep to eat,” stated one of the farmers.
