The Ministry of Education has decided to close 63 programs in public universities.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Arber Mazniku, declared that no quota was approved in these programs, because they had less than 10 students registered. The average level was lower and in some of them were not respected even some legal criteria like quality and infrastructure.
“The higher education law says that a program that cannot attract more than 10 students will not be opened as a program. Those programs that had less than 10 people registered in the pastn year have not received any quota this year, because the request was so law that there was no logic having them”, Mazniku declared.
Even the fees for study programs have increased from 20.000 to 45.000 ALL. The Deputy Minister of Education declared that the quota have increased with 15 to 17%.
“We are giving a chance to universities to improve their teaching and infrastructure quality through the revenues from these fees and through public funds, in order to bring more energy on what is the basic principle of the government program regarding the higher education, which is the radical improvement of the higher education quality”.
Mazniku declared that this year they have approved 2742 quotes less than what faculties have requested. The total number of students that will have scholarships is 19.727. These quota have been approved after an analyze of the Ministry of Education, which has specified that last year, although the total number of approved quoates was 29.390, the real number of registered students was 23.689.
