The Serbian President, Alexandar Vucic, declared at the UN that they
don’t recognize the unilateral independence declaration of Kosovo, but
he wanted to talk about Serbia’s efforts to resolve a century long
issue.
“Everuthing reached so far through the dialogue intermediated by Brussels has been resultof difficult compromises, with both sides ceding something, mostly from our side”, he declared.
Vucic says that the progress with the dialogue proves the conviction of the Serbian government and their readiness for dialogue. Despite initiating internal talks in Serbia for maybe removing Kosovo’s article from the Constitution, he appealed at the UN for Kosovo to not be accepted to the UNESCO. This was an intervention that had not been reflected on the official speech, but it was result of a last-minute announcement.
“Before entering this room I was informed that Prishtina’s authorities declared they had secured the majority needed for their UNESCO accession. I appeal everyone to not allow this. I want to remind that those people were part of the destruction of Serbian monasteries and churches”, Vucic declared.
Serbia media outlets report that Vucic met with the US President, inviting him to visit Serbia and receiving a positive answer. “I explained him in details why it was important for him to visit Serbia. I told him that his presence would show how much Serbs want this friendship”, Vucic declared.
“I spent more time with Trump than with others”, he explained, adding that this attention is maybe due to the fact that he spoke Serbian and Slovenian with Trump’s wife, Melania, who comes from the same region.
