Vangjel Dule, leader of the United for Human Rights Party, has not been
happy with Prime Minister Edi Rama for a long time now, although his
party is still part of his government coalition.
The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, has been looking for new political allies in these past years, and it seems that it is now time to explore their cooperation opportunities.
The 30 minute meeting at the Democratic Party headquarters was very public, and Basha accompanied Dule personally to the door, as he does with very special guests.
It is early to say if Dule’s UHRP will be in opposition soon, but his votes cannot be calculated anymore as part of the government coalition.
However, their possible coalition between the DP and the UHRP might fail without starting yet, since Basha has declared to be ready to cooperate with any party that opposes Edi Rama, including that of Kreshnik Spahiu, with whom Basha had a meeting a few days ago.
The Red and Black Alliance was born as a nationalistic party, mainly attacking the party of Vangjel Dule. The coalition between Rama and Dule in 2013 was actually the official reason why Spahiu declared to leave the alliance with Edi Rama.
However, the main focus of the opposition for the moment is protests, not only in Tirana but also in other cities. This decision was taken in a meeting between Basha and local DP leaders.
The purpose seems to not let the government go for any local problem that the DP sees as an efficient form for a public reaction against the government.
