The Serres Court has released two prison guards accused of torturing to
death the Albanian prisoner, Kudret Kume, also known as Ilia Kareli.
Kareli was brutally beaten by the Nigrita prison guards after he had
killed a guard in another prison, after his request to meet his mother
was rejected for many years.

This same court released yesterday four guards who will be forced to appear at the police precinct of their local area once a month, and they are not allowed to travel abroad. 6 out of the 15 suspected guards are free while, the rest are being detained.

The Director of the Nigrita Prison has not appeared in court, although he is seen in the video footage which show that he was inside the room where Kareli was tortured to death.

The Albanian Prosecution has prepared their view on the case, and sent it to their Greek counterpart. Sources from the “Shqip” newspaper say that the document was prepared by the Fier Prosecution and was then sent to the Prosecution General, which has sent it to the Greek counterpart.
