The operation for the rescue of Norman Adriatic took the life of two
Albanian sailors. They were part of the “Illyria” ship of the Vlore
Port.

Petrit Jahaj, 57, and Edmond Hilaj, 59, both from Vlore, were on the board of “Illyria” that was towing the ferry.

The giant ship risked going on the shore of the Seman beach to avoid what could have turned into an environmental tragedy for Albania. The two Albanian ships were towing the ferry.

Due to the strong wind and waves, a cable of the “Illyria” ship broke and hit the two Albanian sailors.

The incident caused a big defect on the ship with six other crew members. The “Aulona” ship left the Vlora port to help their colleagues.

16 miles from the accident was found a boty, which might be one of the passengers of the ferry. A warship was sent to take the victim, which will be later identified and sent to the authorities of the respective country.

The fear that the balance of the tragedy could grow bigger is still huge. The Italian and Greek media talk about dozens of missing persons. There is no formal information, but the number could be 37 or 40.
