The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk expects the President
of Macedonia to take a reasonable decision and help the country out of
the political crisis. However, the President seems determined to not
authorize Zoran Zaev to form a new government.
“This ongoing crisis block your country’s EU integratin. It is up to you to find a solution based on democratic principles, but that are also reasonable”, said Tusk after meeting with Preident Gjorgje Ivanov.
“My stance has not changed. I updated Tusk with the details of the constitutional competences. The new government should not be contested by any party. The decision is preventive. The European Union is a guarantee for the Ochrid agreement and the agreement of 2015”, Ivanov said.
He added that principles of good neighboring are being violated with direct interventions that manipulate citizens, by demanding new constitutional amends. “We don’t need foreign platforms, but reforms”, Ivanov said, adding that the EU must reject the so-called Albanian platform.
