The decision of the OMONIA organization for not recognizing the census
led by the Albanian government on the Greek minority population has made
the Muslim minority in Greece to do the same.
According to Top Channel sources at the Greek Foreign Ministry, their officials have been advised that the Muslim community in Greece that lives in Traka have demanded their own registration by not recognizing the population registration held by the Greek government.
Although not official, the demand was discussed by the extremists of the muslim community, part of which wants to be recognized as a Turkish community, and not a Muslim community, as recognized by the Greek government.
Being in front of this fact, the Greek Foreign Ministry will encourage OMONIA in Albania to continue with the population registration and will not even recognize it, since it would damage the Albanian-Greek relations and would open a new front for Greece, exactly in one of the most difficult economic situations that their country is facing, but also due to the frequent and violent changes hat are taking place in the Mediterranean and Middle East.
Omonia’s decision for a partial registration of the Greek minority in southern Albania has divided not only the minority itself, but also the Greek Foreign Ministry, part of which supports the moderated path of integrating this minority in our country, despite the sporadic problems created in it.
The monitoring of the US State Department regarding the minority status in our country is the starting point of the Greek Government for the conditions of the Greek Minority in Albania.
The appointment of Dimitris Avramopulos as Foreign Minister encourages the moderated integration and pro-European path of the Greek minority in Albania. Mr. Avramopulos and |other Greek diplomats have not encouraged the decision of OMONIA.
