A few years ago, Albanian patients would travel abroad and even sell their homes to have a heart surgery in foreign hospitals, but now it seems their faith in Albanian cardiology has been restored.

The Tirana University Hospital Center has carried out 804 successful interventions during 2017.

“This is a record-breaking number for open-chest operations. This is the second highest number of intervention in Balkan”, said Prof.Dr.Edvin Prifti, Chief of the Cardio-Surgery Service at the Tirana University Hospital Center.

The Cardio-surgery department has high-end equipment for delicate interventions. Doctors say mortality rate has dropped with 0.6% thanks to investments.

Investments have also reduced the cost of patients who need heart surgery.
