Carpets, covers, traditional clothing and other handmade works were exhibited at a fair today in “Gjergj Kastrioti” square in Lezha, in the northwestern Albania.

The event called “Arte dhe zeje” (Arts and Crafts) brought together artisans from Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia this Saturday. The fear that modernity can very quickly “take out of fashion” or destroy tradition, was the motivation for the organizer Tereze Gega, at the same time one of the oldest artisans in Lezhë.

While talking about the importance of the fair, she says that tradition is now intertwined with modernity.

“For the artisans this was a good opportunity to present in the tents the work that comes from dedication and love for the craftsmanship of hand-crafting”, Teresa adds.

“The interest was also high from the visitors, who did not hesitate to buy the works.”

The tradition of creating handicrafts, first as a necessity and then as a tradition to be inherited, is old, but never forgotten.”

One of the visitors says: “It is precisely these fairs that remind us of the work, dedication and passion that lies behind the creations of artisans.”

“It is the first time I come to Albania, we had a great time today, the most beautiful day, the weather is very good. I bought this drink and will try it. I saw the people dancing and tried to learn something. I had a lot of fun.”
