The tourist operators complained at the Minister of Economic Development
about the progress of tourism in 2015. The complaints were related to
infrastructure, pollution and high taxes.
“Ambulatory vendors have damaged the Road of Pines. The same goes for the beach, where locals sell products carrying them with farming animals. People come and say that OK, hotels are good, but the situation outside looks ugly. Police road blocks seen everywhere are a concern, because they keep stopping tourist buses. Another absurd thing is that tourist buses are not allowed at the Plepa beach. We have been forced to pay to go through there”, says Ilda Kasa, Tourist Operator.
Enver Mehmeti, from the Albanian Tourism Associaion, said that VAT will not be an open debt. He said that hotels have waited for a reduced VAT and for this reason they have given an unreal offer, which has produced informality that will continue in 2016.
The tourist operators said this could cause a cancelling of the agreements with foreign tourist companies. Minister Arben Ahmetaj asked operators, especially from the media, to help promoting Albanian tourism.
Tourist operators say that the airport landing tax makes trips to our country the most expensive in the region. But Minister Ahmetaj said that the government has agreed with the concessionary company for liberalizing flights.
