The Butrint Park is the biggest archaeological site in Albania as
regards tourist management, and now it is having its peak of visitors.
At least 700-800 visitors visit this park each day. The Butrint souvenir shop offers dozens of new specifications this year.
The Butrint Foundation has 37 artisans of the Shendelli village who work for offering at least 200 souvenirs.
The visitors come from different nationalities, especially from Kosovo and other lands with ethnic Albanian population.
“I’m here with a large group of French tourists. My countrymen have always been skeptical about Albania, but in the last years there are even more French people who visit Butrint. The image of your country and its recognition is changing, and I guarantee that everyone who is with me today are surprised by the beauty of this site”, a tourist declared.
Bekim from Gjakova visited Butrint for the first time with his family, and feels happy that now he can visit this archaeological site.
Butrint was declared a museum site by the Socialist state in 1961, and world heritage by Unesco in 1992. The National Park of Butrint surface is 15 hectares.
