Tourist agencies in Albania raise alarms about the quality of beaches in maritime areas, which could damage the future of tourism and economy in Albania.
“A tourist country cannot be unclean. This problem must end once and for all”, said Enver Mehmeti, President of the Tourist Agencies Association. ”Albania is facing a tourist boom, not only for increasing the number of tourists, but also for enlarging their geography. Neighbours have been the basis for tourism for many years, but now Albania is turning into a destination for Scandinavian and western countries, who demand more quality.
“Tourists want to know the quality of the water they consume. There are very strict requests from operators who demand detailed water tests”, adds the President of the Tourist Agency Association.
1.7 billion EUR entered Albania during the last year through tourism. Tourist operators say that this year it is expected to grow even more.
