The tourist season seems to have started earlier for Shkodra, as compared to the same period a year ago, the interest is higher for the mountainous areas and cultural monuments in the northern center of Albania.

“We have a significant increase in visitors, there are about 15 thousand of them who have preferred the Rozafa castle as their destination, while if we compare the same period with a year ago, we notice a significant increase”, says Besara Podgorica, Director of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Shkodër.

Italian, French and German tourists have been heading to the “Marubi” National Photo Gallery for years. Director Luçian Bedeni says that this connection between Marubi and the West comes from the history of the photo gallery, the exhibitions opened in Europe and the international promotion.

“We see somewhere around a 14% growth. This is, so to speak, a very hopeful figure, which thus precedes the season that begins in May until October. We have had cases when the Italians have been in the first place of visitation, as well as the Germans and then the French. Visitors from central Europe are the ones who visit the Marubi museum the most”, said Bedeni, head of the Marubi National Photo Gallery.

The last tourist season for Shkodra was so successful that for several weeks in the mountain traditional guesthouses in Theth, Lëpushë and Vermosh there were no rooms.
