Restaurants, hotels and inns in Gjirokastra in southern Albania, faced this year with a much lower influx of visitors compared to previous years.
“The season was certainly weak, but it was also a period of reflection on the offer, or finding the weak points and to encourage creativity in cooking and services”, says Manjola Shehaj who opened a small restaurant in the market during the pandemic.
Shortages of qualified staff ranging from business administrators, chefs, waiters, receptionists are among the main problems that businesses have been facing for years.
“Visit Gjirokastra” is enabling meetings of experts in the field with businesses to promote a new spirit of hospitality, services and cooking and food safety that would be in line with the tourism potential of Gjirokastra as a region.
In Gjirokastra alone, there are over 400 culinary and accommodation businesses, while in the whole region the number of tourism services businesses reaches over 1500.
