After receiving a complaint from the relatives of the prisoners who
escaped the Trikalla Prison in Greece and then were killed by the
police, the Ombudsman Igli Totozani asked the Albanian Foreign Ministry
and it structures in Greece to negotiate for guaranteeing their life.

“The Ombudsman appeals the Albanian citizens and the authorities to find a quick solution to this problem, resolving this way the use of force, so that the right to live can be a priority. If the Albanian prisoners who escape would turn themselves in, this would avoid the usage of force that could take other lives. On the same time, the Ombudsman asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Albania and its structures in Greece to play an active role in negotiating for the surrendering of the Albanian citizens”, Totozani declared.

11 prisoners escaped from the Trikalla prison, and five of them are Albanians. Three of the Albanians have been killed during a confrontation with the Greek Police. One Greek policeman also died in the shooting.
