Toto Riina, the biggest Italian mafia boss, who died at 87, was buried today at the Corleone cemetery, which will remain closed until this evening.

The coffin entered through a secondary door, to avoid the many journalists gathered on site.

The ritual was held between close family members and the priest made a simple and quick blessing.

Toto Riina is responsible for many deaths, including Judge Giovanni Falcone. Falcone’s sister said that Riina never confessed about the many judges who were involved with the mafia.

Pino Maniaci is one of the journalists who always reported the mafia. With Riina’s death, he says that an important chapter has been closed.

“This is the end of an era. The history of massacres was closed with his death. The problem is now with the declarations that we have heard today about the mafia, how such a monster received mythical proportions. They talk about who will replace Riina, rather than closing this mafia chapter once and for all”, Maniaci said.
