The Albanian President Bamir Topi met the Serbian homologue, Boris
Tadic, during the ninth regional UNESCO meeting between the Presidents
of Southeastern Europe.
According to the Presidency official web page, the head of the Albanian state noted that the relations with Serbia are a priority with political regional significance for Albania, which aims to build good and constructive relations with Serbia for the mutual interest of both countries.
“The political dialogue, the institutionalization of the relations, passing from sporadic contacts to a permanent communication would create a stable climate of trust and sincerity between us”, Topi declared.
The President of Albania emphasized once again during this meeting the stance of Albania that the matter of the Kosovo status and its borders are a closed matter.
“Albania totally supports the territorial integrity of Kosovo in its current borders that have been internationally recognized. Albania supports the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia for technical matters, as two independent and sovereign countries, in order to improve the quality of life for both countries”, Topi declared.
The Albanian President also underlined the significance of respecting the rights of the Albanians who live in Southern Serbia, such as education, equivalence of diplomas, health assistance, Albanian books, etc. which fulfill the European democratic standards.
