The Albanian President has challenged the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali
Berisha, on his last four days as president. Topi decorated yesterday
with the “Gratitude Meda” Hysen Shoshori, the former political prisoner
who accused Prime Minister Berisha as the person who had witnessed in
his trial and who encouraged his death sentence, which then turned in
prison for life.

The President awarded Shoshori for his sacrifices and resistance against the communist dictatorship, the courageous acts and vital engagement in defending the values of freedom and democracy.

Together with him, the President has decorated 32 other former politically persecuted people, who are known for their resistance against the dictatorship.

Considered as one of most determined anticommunists in the Eastern Countries, Shoshori printed and distributed 41.000 flyers in which he appealed the population to overthrow the communist regime of Enver Hoxha.

He was arrested and underwent a special six month investigation and interrogations, during which he was closed several times in a coffin by the investigators.

After the fall of the regime, Shoshori declared in 2002 that Sali Berisha had witnessed in his trial, with very passionate speeches about communism and who made a career in the communist regime also thanks to the testimony in his trial, helping in his death sentencing.

Shoshori quotes Berisha of having said “Hang him!” in the trial. This interview in 2002 was taken by Shoshori’s cell mate, who was also prosecuted by the communist regime. And he was prosecuted a second time after this interview, when Berisha came in power in 2005. He was arrested and he says that his arrest was made up by then Berisha’s bodyguard, Agron Kulici, now one of the highest vice chiefs of the State Police. Shoshori’s accusations were publicly denied by Berisha, who considered them “low defamation”.
