Topi: Calm elections, accept results

After voting together with his wife and daughters, the
Albanian President, Bamir Topi, together with the head of OSCE presence
in Albania, Eugen Wollfarth, visited Petrela, a tourist area near
Tirana.

The goal of this vision was monitoring the elections at one voting center, and the Albanian President did not forget to repeat his appeal for the political class, asking the realization of a calm and democratic election process, as suited to a country that inspires to be integrated in the EU.

“Democracy gives you the opportunity to participate, to allow a free and honest process. The law of democracy is that the winner must be congratulated and the result must be accepted. An accepted result guarantees the continuance of the democratic procedures after the elections. The newly elected institutions will be renewed, not only the municipalities and communes, but also the municipal and communal councils. Usually people talk only about the candidates, and forget the councils. They must continue their activity, so that Albania might become, as we dream, a country with European standards. The citizens need to administer their life through these legal and constitutional instruments and to remove the tensions. Because we make endless debates on politics, every day, but after the elections, life must come to normality, towards the next elections”, Topi declared.

While the ambassador Wollfarth declared that: “The message that I have to the political class, is to show real leadership abilities and accept the result of this electoral process. We also expect the citizens to vote in a free and transparent way. But what I was expecting most is that the politicians must accept the results of this voting process”.
