Top Story moved this Monday at the house that has been under the eyes of the media and the Prosecution.
Former Interior Minister, Saimir Tahiri, broke his silence regarding the Habilaj case, his famous Audi and the different relations with Edi Rama, the Socialist Party and his political career.
Tahiri starts his confession with the feeling he had when Prosecutors and officers entered his home.
“It was an uncomfortable feeling, but not unpredicted by me. My job has made look the situation from the officers’ side. I understood that it is a very difficult procedure, especially for my family members. I understood that they felt violated”, Tahiri said, adding that his family was pretty stressed from the situation.
“They didn’t think that being part of politics in Albania could have such costs. This has turned politics into an instrument that has made people be sick of it. It has gone beyond limits. But I am not sick of it, because such periods for me may serve to others, so that they cannot have to go through this injustice”, he said.
The MP said he has no immunity.
“I have no immunity, at least as I know. I am the only MP who has had the Prosecution entering his home, although others have had more realistic accusations. I never hid behind immunity. No MP has immunity. The only thing I may consider immunity is the house search warrant and arrest order”, he said.
Tahiri adds that he has never judged the Court’s decision. On the contrary, he welcomes efforts to shed light on the truth.
As for being left out of the Socialist Party, Tahiri said he didn’t see it as a political trial. He has the same stance about the Parliament as well, saying it has been defactorized.
“I had no reason to lose time in that Parliament, because my battle is with justice. I have nothing to wait for, until justice is made. The Parliament does not make a proper representation; it’s far from people’s expectations. What happens there every Thursday is really a shame”, he said.
The former Minister of Interior doesn’t believe that he is a burden for the Socialist Party. He thinks that he welcomes being left out of the party, without its protection and comments. “There is no room for politics here. I expect justice to be made by the Courts, not by me. I didn’t expect more than that from the Socialist Party”, he said. Tahiri says he keeps communicating with his MPs, although this communication is limited.
The former Minister mentions once again the Audi that he sold to the Habilaj, his cousins, who were caught trafficking large amounts of cannabis. “I should have been more careful with the sale of that vehicle. This is a human mistake and I am paying for it. I had the obligation to explain to the Prime Minister the decisions I have taken and why they happened”, he declared.
Could Tahiri be the bad apple Rama talks about?
“I will not comment the declarations of anyone, even those of Edi Rama. But things should be seen in the bigger picture. I don’t judge, although I would have done some things differently. I don’t see anything bad on what the Prime Minister said. Principally, I agree with him. I didn’t want his protection the way Berisha was protecting his Ministers”, Tahiri declared.
Answering to those who think that Tahiri might end his political career right now, he said: “A political career doesn’t end just because someone says so. The only thing that can do it is the people’s trust, and people trust that I am truthful. I am not concerned about this and I don’t leave my fate to other people’s hands”, he declared.
