The interceptions between pharmacists and illegal suppliers arrested today during a police action in Tirana were published today, where it is understood how medicines from countries like Italy, Greece and Kosovo were brought to Albania and traded at abusively high prices.
15 people were arrested as part of the group that was discovered today, who were supplying pharmacies and selling contraband drugs without a tax stamp. Five suspects were ordered be arrested in absentia, while detention was ordered for the others.
Journalist Anila Hoxha learns that infiltration methods were used in the investigations, where two police agents ordered the medicine as interested parties. The operation was interrupted last evening because one of the suppliers became suspicious and requested verification.
In the interception file, it is about medicines such as: Claricid, Ceclor, Ceftoral, Zithroma, Depon, Zithromax, Zoloft, Flagyl, Bisovlon, Diamicron, Diovan, Diovan, Vermox, etc.
Those arrested were interrogated and stated that they were not aware that the drugs were smuggled, but in their defense they added that these drugs were good and necessary.
In the voluminous file of interceptions, it can be seen that the pharmacists communicated in the “WhatsApp” application with the suppliers about the prices and how the medicines would be transported, which entered the country from the border points of Greece and Kosovo.
Detained Devis Beqiri stated that he has worked with many pharmaceutical entities. Being engaged in this sector, he has established contacts and acquaintances with professionals in the field, such as doctors or pharmacists. He accepted the smuggling of medicines but insisted that the medicines he sold were of high quality.
Gentian Beqiri has stated in relation to the activity carried out by his brother that he had no knowledge of how medicines were sold or bought, but he says the activity was legal as his brother knows the pharmaceutical sector well.
Also, in the conversations dated 17.10.2023, the suppliers began to suspect after a purchase from the infiltrator, while in a conversation they asked for information about the person.
The reason why they had this conversation, says the Prosecutor’s Office, was because at the first moment of the meeting, the infiltrator presented himself with fictitious names of pharmacies that the supplier knew did not exist.
