On the fifth day of the operation, the Albanian Police declared that
they are present in the entire territory of the Lazarat commune, while
the operation is continuing door to door, to find and eliminate narcotic
plants.
After taking under control the house where there was a heavy machine gun that was shooting against the police, the officers say that they are now present in the entire commune, keeping the situation under control and offering public order and security for the residents.
Supported by the RENEA and Special Forces, two helicopters arrived from Tirana with the RENEA forces, who were positioned in the mountainous area of the village.
The police is looking in every house to avoid any armed clash. Gunshots from Lazarat are heard sporadically, while the residents themselves are constantly burning the drug. Police has increased its presence from the Sopot area, while 13 people have been arrested in total, the latest are Rustem Xhemal Mahmutaj, 19, Teslim Xhemal Mahmutaj, 22, Vandam Razip Mahmutaj, 19, and Hysen Cela, 48.
These citizens are accused of attempting a murder against the police in cooperation, of illegal arm possession and of cultivating narcotics. The suspects, together with other people, have fired against the police during the operation in Lazarat.
Police found 1363 kilograms of hashish in the house of Vandam Mahmutaj, 8500 narcotic plants, 1000 bullets, 225 bullet shells, one grenade, one signal flare gun, and a considerable amount of other types of ammunition.
