Tirana’s train station will be displaced near the Kthesa e Kamzes, where
the periphery of the city has grown today. At the current location of
the train station will be built the new Palace of Justice.
The Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, met with a group of architecture students, with whom he opened the idea of what today is an inefficient service.
“How many of you have used the train to Tirana during this year? Personally, when I was Minister of Transports, I was convinced about the necessity of giving some of the railway goods in concession, by closing or restructuring the passenger department at least in the next decade. We can also create a Tirana-Rinas and Tirana-Durres segment, but for the moment, the railway is victim to the alternative transportation methods. Displacing the railway outside the yellow line of the city, is the best solution. This must be done, and will be followed with the implementation of the light railway, or the tram, in the city streets”, Basha explained.
While presenting other projects and city regulation plans in front of the students and their professors, Basha signed an agreement with the heads of the local units, so that the new plan will not include only Tirana, but also some local units around the capital.
