The level of acoustic pollution in Tirana is twice over the parameters set by the European Union.
From 55 decibel that is the allowed norm during the day, noises in some crossroads of Tirana reach 81 decibel. The allowed noise by night is 35 decibel, while Public Health Institution says that in some areas it reaches even 69.4 decibel.
This monitoring was made in 2011, but the situation has even deteriorated.
“The acoustic pollution is growing. The average of 2011 in Tirana was 71 decibel, from 55 that is allowed. And by night it is 60 decibel, from 30 that is the norm. As you can see, for the night it is almost double, when people can only sleep calmly at 38 decibel”, declared Prof. Assoc. Arben Luzati.
In all areas where the tests were made, levels are higher than the European Union norms during day and night. Most of the pollution is caused by the traffic, while there are several bars that keep high music in several areas.
“This damaged the public health. Noises affect listening, the cardio-vascular system, the digesting system, the endocrine system, the neural system and they create social conflicts”, Luzati declared.
The Regional Environmental Agency did not demand a monitoring of the acoustic pollution.
