Tirana Ring Road, houses razed down

Police and Construction Inspectorate met the fury of the residents while
trying to demolish houses in Sauk, there where the new Tirana
Ring Road will pass.

The residents had started to demolish their homes by themselves, but the government had promised to compensate them before bringing the bulldozers. Instead of the money, the government sent the residents a written letter without any official seal, only 24 hours before bringing the bulldozers, telling them to evacuate.

According to the head of Construction Inspectorate in Tirana, the residents will be compensated, but the procedures take some time. Meanwhile, no one has thought about where these people will be sheltered, starting from today.

The action of the Construction Inspectorate was supposed to start at 10:00, but after some harsh confrontations with the residents, they were able to start working by 13:00, with the help of special police units.
