Tirana, protest against cutting trees

Tirana citizens and environmentalists asked the government to stop cutting trees of the park near the Parliament.

In that place is expected the construction of the new mosque of the Muslim community, and also two large business centers, although they are not approved in the Tirana urban plan.

“They think that this area is suitable not only for a mosque, but also for two other urban constructions. It is unthinkable to have a Parliament so close to a mosque and business centers”, declared environmentalist Sazan Guri.

“The Mayor is violating the Tirana Constitution, which does not allow cutting green spaces, which are already suffering from construction”, declared Lavdosh Ferruni, another environmentalist.

The Muslim devotees are also against this initiative: “I speak as a citizen and as a devoted Muslim. They should have found another way. There’s no sense destroying green areas”, one citizen declared.

This is one of the few green areas remaining in the Albanian capital, and soon will turn into a construction center. Environmentalist Sazan Guri made an appeal to the Albanian citizens so they can react about the protection of green spaces.

“I would appeal the Albanian citizens to not fill their pockets for campaigns, but for what is becoming with our country. If they don’t care about their lives, they should care about their children’s lives”, Guri declared.
