More than 1000 journalists and devotees are expected to arrive in Tirana
this September, to be part of the historic visit of Pope Francis.
The Holy Father chose Albania as the first country for his tour in the region. The Ministry of Culture, in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana, is restoring some objects and the Mother Theresa Square.
“The Pope will have 70 journalists on his airplane, but there might be 1000 foreign journalists who are being accredited to be present in Albania. It will be a good occasion to transmit what Pope Francis declared in June, when he chose Albania for his tour, as a country with a rich culture and history and that deserves the attention of Europe”, declared the Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro.
Minister Kumbaro said that by September 10th, all facades will be cleaned and the pavements will be repaired.
The government approved a 1 million fund for these funds, while the municipality has given 10,000 USD for the restoration and illumination of the square.
“The government will clean the facades at the Mother Theresa square, at the Palace of Congresses and at the Museum of National History with a fund of 1 million USD, which doesn’t include the part of the fountain that will be done by the Municipality”, Kumbaro declared.
The week before the arrival of the Holy Father will be filled with activities that are being organized by the Ministry of Culture in details.
