The “Mother Theresa” mission in Albania was honored today by the Tirana
Municipality with the title “Symbol of the City”. The Mayor of Tirana,
Erion Veliaj, visited the home of the “Mother Theresa” sisters where he
handed over the title.
“I am blessed that I am at the house of the Mother Theresa sisters, together with the staff of the Tirana Municipality. They offer special services to our city for the people in need. As mother Theresa used to say: ‘Not all of us can do big things, but together we can do small things with a lot of love”, Veliaj said.
Veliaj referred to two centers for senior citizens in need.
“I am happy that today we gave the symbol of the city of Tirana to the Mother Theresa sisters. This is her carved image, to express our gratitude and to underline that we are a city that has memory. We remember the years 1991, 1992, when Mother Theresa and the first sisters arrived in Albania. This is also to understand that Albania might have changed a lot since then, but the mission is the same”, Veliaj declared.
The Mayor said that this is the first time that they are giving the symbol of the city and the image of Mother Theresa. This will be a new standard for everyone who offers good deeds of solidarity to this city, and who deserve the symbol.
The Mother Theresa Sisters also gave Mayor Veliaj the symbol of their center.
The Mayor of Tirana clarified that this is a week that will have plenty of activities to commemorate the work of mother Theresa, who will be made a saint this September 4th.
