400 social apartments built by the Tirana Municipality in Shkoze are empty and are not being given to the citizens in need.

According to the official website of the Tirana Municipality, there are at least 5000 homeless families.

What happened recently with the Roma families shows that sheltering is an unresolved problem for many families. Contacted by Top News, the Tirana Municipality authorities give no answer on what is going on, or why the apartments have not been distributed.

Aldrin Dalipi, Head of the Municipal Council, as elected by most of the councillors, has been making appeals for one year for these apartments to be used for the homeless families. According to the law, the Tirana Municipality needs to meet and approve a draft decision that will notify the Albanian citizens for the action plan.

Certainly that the capital offers a higher number of homeless families, and the 400 apartments in Shkoze cannot provide shelter to all of them. The social residences in Shkoze are being seen as an option to shelter the Roma families that were evicted a few days ago from their habitations.

So far, the Tirana Municipality has given no solution and has not created any concrete plan for resolving this issue. The Tirana Municipality representatives were not present in the meeting organized by the Ombudsman for the sheltering of the Roma community. The Municipal council that can resolve this problem is facing a political stalemate, since Aldrin Dalipi has been selected as Head of the Municipal Council with the votes of the majority, but the right councillors consider it illegal.
