Mayor Erion Veliaj has won the defamation lawsuit against former Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku, in relation with the exposure of corrupt practices in Tirana road construction works.
A reaction came from the former MP, who wrote that the decision was taken after political pressure was put on the judges, who are themselves in the process of vetting examinations.
“Today the court of first instance, under the pressure of the vetting process that is becoming more and more partisan, as the Venice Commission confirmed, took a decision contrary to the evidence and facts that are already widely known.
“Albanians are witnessing how the plan for the Unaza e Re road was corrupt in its genesis and also that the government in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana have changed the plan of Lana River crossing to favor Edmond Bego. I have held these positions at the press conference, presenting convincing evidence, and the Albanians have already learned about the close relationship between Bego and Balla.
“Whoever thinks that we will withdraw from the truth thinking that they are intimidating us with such court hearings, is wrong. I fully stand by what I have stated as irrefutable evidence is the basis of the allegations raised at the two press conferences”, stated Tabaku.
