The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, visited the newly built recreation playground at the suburban area of Dajti, where he thanked the donators who made this project possible, and said that the cooperation will continue with other villages of Tirana as well, so that children and residents can have relaxing spaces.
Veliaj responded to the accusations of the Democratic Party, who hold him responsible for two fires that broke up in two kindergartens. He said that despite the purpose of those who have lit the intentional fires, it is important for the municipality to keep protecting public works and offering support to firefighters.
“There are people who, thank God they’re a minority, want to take advantage of everything, even of a fire lit by someone, and use it as an argument against the municipality or against the government. This is not normal. The city needs to progress. If a vandal puts a kindergarten on fire, we need to be there to defend our public property and support firefighters who take those fires out in a few seconds. I don’t think that the opposition is responsible, but I feel bad that the opposition becomes one with the fire-starters, rather than with the firefighters”, Veliaj said.
