On the first anniversary of the canonization of Albanian humanist Mother
Theresa, the Municipality of Tirana honored two charity foundations.

The “Mother Theresa” medal was given to the Future Alternative Foundation, which helps orphan children and the Papa Giovani 23 community, which focuses on individuals who live on the streets.

Mayor Erion Veliaj valued the contribution of the two charities, and appealed citizens to contribute and help people in need.

“I am especially happy today, on the day of the canonization of Mother Theresa, to honor two brothers, two collaborators, two communities of volunteers who made a great job with their work. These organizations are based on religion, one Muslim and one Christian. But each of them has found a solution to a problem. I appeal citizens that before spending time on social networks to contribute with the virtual poison, they should find ways to help, as Papa Giovani and ALSAR are doing. If this energy is transformed into assistance  and charity to people in need, it would be the best way to capitalize the energy and vitality of our people”, Veliaj said.

The Mayor valued the unification message brought by the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu (George Kastriot Skanderbeg).

“We all felt proud when some months ago, the leaders of Albania’s religious walked together and received applauds from all Western civlization for the harmony that was offered. Religious harmony is not something that we should taken for granted. We need to cure it each day”, Veliaj said.
