Tirana Mayor: “Ready to welcome 2500 runners for Marathon”

They come from 40 countries of the world, and Veliaj said it will give a positive impulse also to the city’s economy.

“It is the first time that the marathon has been internationally and officially certified. This means that we are going to be monitored as well. I believe it will be a big celebration for all of Tirana, and for this team that managed the quality of works. We are welcoming 2500 athletes from 40 different countries, starting from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Usa and Europe. This is a great opportunity to introduce our city as a beautiful greeting card. We are in a situation when every hotel is booked in Tirana. This is also good for the economy. I appeal restaurants and bars as well to be welcoming for a better introduction”, Veliaj declared.

Veliaj said that different from one year ago, the Marathon’s itinerary is focused on the city. Runners will go through the most attractive areas of the city, turning this race not only into a challenge, but into entertainment as well.

“The first time we had a linear system, from Durres to Tirana. Now we have what is called a City Marathon, focused on the city”, Veliaj saidm, inviting citizens to get out on October 15th and support the runners.
