The physical attack against the Thessaloniki Mayor has caused many reactions from the political class in Greece.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, reacted and valued Yannis Butaris as a man who symbolizes the force of the reason and modernization.
“Yannis Butaris is an incredible force of reason and modernization. Nationalists will not be able to impose their ways through violence. Solidarity with the citizens and the Mayor of Thessaloniki”, Veliaj wrote on Twitter.
The Mayor was attacked during the annual ceremony that commemorated the genocide against Greek Orthodox population who were forced out of their lands in Asia Minor by Turks. 340,000 lost their lives.
