The “Interurban Transportation Association” sent a letter to the
Municipality of Tirana, asking a rise of the ticket price from 30 ALL to
70 ALL, or they will suspend their activity.
They say the request is legitimated, since that would cover the cost for the high price of oil and other economic difficulties.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, reacted immediately and said that he uses buses daily, that’s why he knows their situation from a personal view. Veliaj said that the transportation service in Tirana is not justified for the request made by the association of buses.
“As long as I am Mayor, they should forget the 70 ALL ticket. This is not a response to their threat, but a way to say that ultimatums are not the right way of communication”, Veliaj said.
Veliaj said that before discussing a price raise, bus association representatives must agree to raise the quality of their services and buses, if they agree to include new bus lines that go to villages, and if they agree for electronic tickets”, Veliaj said.
