The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, tonight’s guest on Top Story, spoke about the cooperation with the Socialist Movement for Integration at the Municipal Council.
Veliaj said that the fact that his budget received votes from the SMI, was due to individual votes since he has been working to create as much consensus possible for building Tirana.
Veliaj said that there are no longer two parties, but two political groups with two different opinions: “There’s one group that says ‘Yes, we can build Albania’, and the other group that says ‘No, we cannot build Albania and we are not going to vote projects and reforms” Veliaj said.
As for the cooperation with the SMI, Mayor Veliaj said that after Ilir Meta was appointed President and the party was taken over by the new leader, Ilir Meta’s wife, Monika Kryemadhi, there was a sudden change of policies.
“When Ilir Meta said ‘yes’, that was a ‘yes’. When he said ‘no’, that was a ‘no’. Unfortunately, that’s not the case anymore. It was always fair-play with Ilir Meta”, Veliaj said.
The Mayor of Tirana confirmed that the alliance with the SMI in a local level is now terminated.
“We have no longer an alliance with the SMI. SMI took its own decision, but work in Tirana must continue”, he declared.
