The existing National Theater will be demolished and a new one will be built in its place.
Besides the theatre, there will also be other buildings in a historic area of Tirana. But what do citizens think about this?
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said that the new building will have no high-rise towers and that the current building, according to Italian experts, has no monumental value.
“We have received a bit to make sure that we have a theatre without a tower, a modern theatre that will be away from populist panes. This theatre has taken away lives of many actors. This is the only place where actors die. We must think how today’s theatre is in a shameful place. It has taken enough money from the Albanian taxpayers”, Erion Veliaj declared.
However, it is a historic area of Tirana. Today it is surrounded by the pedestrian promenade and by two high towers. On another side, there is a café, in a typical Tirana building.
Citizens say the theatre needs a new face, but no high-rise towers.
Sources say that the Municipality of Tirana has discussed several projects with the Prime Minister’s office, to determine the final variant.
