On March 7th, Albania’s national Teacher’s Day, the Mayor of Tirana,
Erion Veliaj, inaugurated the reconstruction of the “Kosova” primary
education school in Tirana, and promised that 20 others will be built
for the Albanian capital.

“The message we have for students, teachers and parents, is that this cannot be a city where schools are burned down to be replaced by apartment buildings. We all know the story how there used to be a school here, which was brutally and cowardly set on fire one night, only for teachers and students to find it burned down the next day. After endless municipal sessions, the old municipal plan ordered the construction of an apartment building right here. But I think that Tirana has enough apartment buildings and there will be other places for people to live in. But we can never sacrifice a school for an apartment building”, Veliaj said.

The “Kosova” school will have four floors in total. The underground floor will have a library, a reading room and an area for preserving books. The auditoriums will be available to the community too.

This investment plans to create all necessary conditions, from modern labs, elevators to ramps and facilities for people with special needs.
