Construction works for the new Tirana Boulevard have started at the former Train Station with a 26 million EUR fund. The boulevard is expected to be ready after 18 months.
Mayor Lulzim Basha considered the inauguration of the construction works as a historic day for the city.
“We are opening a new development corridor for Tirana, which will bring more jobs, more businesses and a new part of Tirana with green spaces and leisure”, Basha declared.
Although the square was secured by numerous Municipal Police and Renea forces, the Mayor was welcomed with protests by the home owners who will have their houses expropriated. They say that their property has been valued with 26000 ALL per square meter, several times less then what it is worth.
“We had a long discussion with him and the price was ridiculous. We are waiting for a formal answer by the Mayor”, one resident declared.
But Basha promised the residents that they will correct the evaluation for the houses that will be demolished.
“I guarantee the residents that we will correct any expropriation that is not well deserved, so that every resident of the new boulevard will feel as a shareholder in this major project”, Basha declared.
The Mayor thanked the Emir of Kuwait, the government of Abu Dhabi and the Emir of Qatar for the contribution in this project.
