Diaspora is the first one that responded to the appeals for planting plants in Tirana.
Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and the Minister of Diaspora, Pandeli Majko, planted 100 trees at the Municipal Unit 5.
“This is the best way to start Spring at Municipal Unit 5. I remember the challenges when the Kosovars Road had not started yet. The construction of the Olympic Park had just started. We are in another phase today. The Komuna e Parisit roundabout is stabilizing the traffic, while we are increasing trees in every park”, Veliaj said.
The Minister of State for Diaspora and also Socialist Party MP, Pandeli Majko, considered the donation of trees as one of the best civil initiatives in Tirana. He said that there is a new culture in the capital that is being embraced by citizens.
“In early 90s people were cutting trees in sign of revolt to the system. It was sad. But it is interesting that people are turning to a new culture that of planting trees rather than cutting them. This is a great initiative, despite the cynical comments in the beginning, as always”, Majko said.
