8000 trees and 32.000 decorative plants have been planted in all of
Tirana’s streets and parks for less than one year. The general local
plan foresees 2 million trees to be planted by 2030.
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said during the annual report of the Parks and Recreation Agency that 1000 trees have been planted each month at the Artificial Lake, turning it into the favorite spot for citizens.
Citizens will soon be able to visit the parks of Vaqarr, Peza and Farka too, where works are still undergoing.
“I can’t wait to move from this tree planting tradition to the giant operation plan for creating the Orbital Forest, the green belt surrounding the entire city of Tirana and giving oxygen to our capital”, the Mayor said.
Veliaj mentioned the building of playgrounds, adding that political debates against them are very unfair.
“The Artificial Lake playground is not only a testimony of our good work, but it also reminds us of the hysteric battles at which we laugh today. But when the park was being attacked, there was nothing to laugh about. It shows how politics can be done with everything. And here we are today. There are no cafes, no apartment buildings, no other monstrous things”, Veliaj said.
The Mayor added that Tirana’s public transportation has still much to improve, but he is happy to see that more citizens are using bicycles each year.
