The number of births fell again in the third quarter of the year in Albania, by 7.4% compared to a year ago.

The number of deaths has decreased to the same extent, causing the natural increase of the population to remain positive in the July-September period.

The state INSTAT institute informs that in six regions of the country the natural increase is positive, while in six others it is negative, the latter including Gjirokastra, Berati, Vlora, Korça, Fieri and Shkodra. Meanwhile, Tirana continues to have the highest positive addition in the country, followed by Durrës, while Korça has the lowest.

As for deaths, the highest number resulted in Fier and Tirana, followed by Durrës.

During the first 9 months of this year, 16,353 children were born in Albania, while there were about 15,000 deaths. The natural increase of the population is undergoing a recovery after three years of the pandemic, as in 2021 the country saw a strong increase in deaths.

Meanwhile, even in the first quarter of this year, the country experienced more deaths than births, raising concerns about the cities demographic changes.
