Once one of poorest areas, the villages of Nikel commune between Tirana
and Fushe Kruja have turned into the epicenter of the Albanian furniture
industry.

Beside the national road there is a massive concentration of hundreds of woodshops, with which this area near the Albanian capital has connected their revenues.

The geographical position also favors the concentration of the industry in this area. The needs of the domestic market once were covered by import. Today, the furniture industry is one of the success histories, where domestic investments have not only replaced imports, but have also created spaces for export.

The biggest boom of this industry was after 1998. The producers say that for this year they have secured satisfying revenues, since the market is still hungry for these products. However, the crisis has not spared even the furniture business, which is strictly connected with the construction business.

Although there is no official data, experts say that the furniture market generates dozens of millions of Euros each year and has created thousands of jobs.
