Tirana-Elbasan highway keeps needing more budget funds, and the recent 15 mln won’t be the last

Whoever thought that the 14 million EUR declared by the Minister of Infrastructure one day ago will be the last fund added to the Tirana-Elbasan highway construction, is wrong.

This fund will be used for continuing the works from Iba to the tunnel, but the landslides in Mamel will require other funds.

For the past five months, the landslide has blocked the road, and accidents have not been missing.

No one knows when will there be an intervention in this area where the landslide has been massive.

The Albanian Road Authority has sent a project for intervention to the World Bank, which will include the removal of the massive rock and to control of underground waters, which, according to the geological study, were responsible for the landslide.

But the World Bank is skeptical about this landslide, although there have been several months and no one has acted.

What is known is that the Tirana-Elbasan road will keep bringing up budget surprises for the Albanian taxpayers.
