Urban Transportation associations warned a strike on January 1st, after
meeting with Mayor Veliaj. They want to increase the ticket price from
30 to 40 ALL. They say they cannot offer service to citizens with the
current financial conditions.

“We have invested with new busses and we have 1500 workers. We haven’t paid drivers for the past 4-5 months and we have taken loans. With the help of the Bank of Albania we restructured the loan”, said Ferdinand Ibrahimi from the Urban Transportation Association.

“We did not find an agreement. On January 1st we will close our vehicles”, said Hasbi Parllaku, Urban Transportation Association.

The Vice Mayor of Tirana, Arbian Mazniku, excluded raising the ticket price, although he admitted the difficult situation of the sector.

Mazniku said terminating the agreements is not the purpose of the Tirana Municipality, but they want to improve the quality and cover 100% of the urban lines.
