Tirana citizens will not be able to use public transportation vehicles
this Friday. None of the six urban lines that work in Tirana will not
make the daily itinerary, since syndications have warned a 24-hour
strike, since bus drivers and conductors have not been paid by the
transportation companies.
On the other hand, transportation companies demand a price increase from 30 to 70 ALL.
A group of young people protested in front of the Ministry of Transportation against the ticket price increase, considering it a heavy burden for the citizen. They also declared that the public transportation quality is very poor.
“This transportation should be free for the categories in need. The unemployed, the families in need and students should have a free service. We want quality of service. What we have is not a fast public transportation. People are squeezed, robbed and crashed in our buses”, protesters declared.
This organization has sent petitions to the Ministry of Transportation and the Tirana Municipality, which this time has taken the side of the transportation companies, saying that buses cannot cover the cost of oil prices. The government is also expected to pass this decision to Municipalities.
“The government is still silent and is not taking their responsibilities. We have no official reaction from the respective institutions. The government has decided to close their ears and not listen to the problems that have been made present for months”, says Enno Bozdo, vice Mayor of Tirana.
Bozdo underlined that the government needs to make a subvention of public transportation operators, in order to not allow a price increase.
Regardless of the declarations, those who will have problems going to schools, to work or hospitals are the Tirana citizens who cannot resolve the bus stalemate with their private vehicles.
