Tirana Budget approved

The Tirana Municipality has finally passed the budget for 2014, a total
of 8.3 billion ALL. After more than two hours of discussions, left and
right councilors have agreed to approve this budget at the Municipal
Council.

“We left behind a difficult past and we are facing a new time, when an opposition force gives the Mayor the vote to approve the Tirana Budget”, declared Aldrin Dalipi, Chairman of the Municipal Council.

The left councilors complained for lack of transparency.

“But the communication of the Municipality has not been transparent with us. This is evident”, declared Adriana Berberi, councilor of the Socialist Party.

“In the detailed plan you will see a list of the streets that will be rebuild for the first time. In 2013 we had no new construction without closing the old ones, and most of them are closed or in the final parts. Making projects takes time. Whoever will lead the administration of this municipality, will have at least projects to finance”, declared Enno Bozdo, vice mayor of the Municipality.

There have been debates even though both parties were interested for approving the budget, which had been returned one month ago.

Several changes were approved in the Municipal Council meeting, including some amends with the tax and fee system, such as increasing the fee for food in kindergartens, and for lowering the property tax with 30%. Another discussion point was the expropriation of citizens who are affected by the Tirana Boulevard extension, for which Bozdo declared that there is a budget of 4.5 million USD.

The owners that will be expropriated protested in front of the Tirana Municipality against the expropriation.
