Tirana at the Venice Biennial, Veliaj: “We’re bringing a piece of our history”

Part of Tirana’s urban environmental plan will go to the Venice Biennale 2018.

Albania will be represented by the “Zero Space” project which focuses on old doors of Tirana houses, as an element that explains the city where the old co-exists with the modern.

Present in the project’s presentation was Mayor Veliaj, who said that based on the ideas, Albania’s pavilion has great expectations.

For Veliaj, this was a great opportunity to show the world a piece of our country, and also of Tirana, which is a city full of life, challenges and where it is worth living.

“My job makes me often meet Mayors of developed cities who have the infrastructure, such as trams, metro, luxury buildings and modern streets, but they don’t have life. If I had to choose between Tirana full of challenges and a perfectly built city, where everything closes at 17:00, I would choose Tirana”, Veliaj said.

The Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, underlined that the project representing Albania in this Biennale not only brings an idea but also civility.

“Erion works with his Municipality team to develop the city. We as Culture Ministry took the responsibility to transform it in a project that transmits architecture through art to the international public. Our goal is to go beyond Venice, beyond Italy”, Kumbaro said.
