On the third day of the hunger strike, three new protesters entered the tent, bringing the total number to 16.
One of the three new protesters is Leonard Strazimiri, who claims that he has been fired unjustly from the social services. But since his first day in the hunger strike, a document has come out which shows that Strazimiri’s lawsuit has been rejected by the Administrative Court of First Instance as unfounded.
Meanwhile, Mimoza Bocari, who left the hunger strike yesterday, has been replaced by Mahir Reci, who has been fired from the “Student Treatment Agency”. The other protester is Tonin Kolthi, former Chief Inspector of the Police in Kurbin.
According to the doctors who assist the protesters, their health condition is getting worse due to the lack of air. For this reason they moved to a bigger tent, but the coordinators say it was seized by the police two days ago.
Berisha: This strike is different
“Socialists ate pizzas. Former political prisoners were abused”
The Albanian former Prime Minister and former leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, declared that the opposition will support any strike that is based on human rights. According to Berisha, this cannot be compared with the hunger strike of the opposition in 2010, since it had political motives.
“We held a humane stance towards them and we took all the measures. Their tents were not touched, but the entire area was left to them. We didn’t use documents when they sent them pizzas and steaks, and they did well, because this is not my problem, but this is the truth. Even when Mr.Meta started a hunger strike in Parliament because of Edi Rama, not because of me. Even with the former political prisoners, they engaged people with mental issues, and burned them alive. The Prosecution is investigating that case, but we didn’t interrupt the strike”, Berisha declared.
The protesters were visited by Democratic Party Parliament Members, Eduard Halimi, Mesila Doda, Albana Vokshi and Jorida Tabaku. The coordinators of the strike say that they expect other people to join.
